Daniel Plan Day 1

We successfully followed the Daniel Plan today! It's wasn't that hard when you make the plans beforehand. For supper we had chicken with bell peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms and brown rice. It was pretty tasty.


I didn't get up early enough to run this morning so I went when I got home from work. It was not such a good idea. Running in the dark at night is kind of scary. There are so many people coming and going and dogs barking that you can't see where they are. Then there are people yelling and you don't know if they are yelling at you or not. I am not a fan. It's supposed to snow tomorrow so I will probably be stuck on the dreadmill.



Last night we had date night and decided to try something new. (At least new to me.)


Sushi is unlike anything I've ever eaten. I only tried one and it had shrimp and crab. I'm not a fan of shrimp, but it was actually okay. I think I would have enjoyed it more with just the crab though. We will try something different next time, but it was fun to try something new for a change instead of going to the same places over and over. Afterwards we went to see American Hustle. It was a good movie. The story was really interesting and had me guessing what was going to happen until the end. 

Seen any good movies lately or tried anything new?

If at First You Don't Succeed

First of all, thanks to my husband for the new background for the blog. I'm still working on getting all of the colors coordinated, but glad to finally have a background of my own. 

This week did not go as planned. Or rather I did not plan well for this week. We went out Sunday night for my work's holiday party. We went to The Kentucky Center to see Sister Act and we got home too late to go to the grocery store. (Bad planning on my part.) So Monday I just ate whatever because I didn't have anything ready for the Daniel Plan. The rest of the week just kind of followed suit. 

Now we move on to another week, a better week. I have the menu planned and the grocery list made for tomorrow.

Today I decided I needed to go for a run. Remember last week I said I would get all the runs checked off the list? Didn't happen so I had to run today. It was pretty cold out so I got on the dreadmill. It was just as awful as I remember. It is so much harder than running outside. I am exhausted when I get done no matter how far I go. I only went 2 miles today, but I felt like I ran a lot farther. 


The new Tomtom watch has a treadmill option and I wanted to see how it compared to what the treadmill said. It's a little bit off. It gave me an option to calibrate my run when I got done, but I exited out of it and then couldn't go back so I'll have to do it next time.


It did feel good to run again though. I also figured out a way to watch Netflix while I run on the dreadmill so now I am on the lookout for a good show that will keep me semi-distracted while I run and maybe I won't think of it as the dreadmill anymore.


This year the challenge is more mental than it has been the past couple of years. The initial determination has faded and it's harder and harder to stay on track. I need to change the way I am thinking about things. Hopefully The Daniel Plan will help me to do that because it also focuses on faith and not just food. This week will be better...

Just What I Needed

Today I had the worst run I've had in a long time. I would love to blame it on having the flu a couple weeks ago and this lingering cough, but we all know I stopped running long before I got the flu. So today when I ran and had to take walk breaks to finish the 3 miles on the training schedule, I was pretty frustrated with myself. I was going to just run 2 miles as I got into my run because I didn't think I could finish, but I knew I would be disappointed if I didn't go the whole 3. I ended up running/walking 3.12 miles.


I was pretty excited to get to use the new running watch I got for Christmas. I really liked it. It's a Tomtom watch and it's really easy to use. It also will sync with Runkeeper which I was happy about since that's where most of my past runs are logged. 

I also got to try out some new earphones. I have had a hard time finding any that will stay in my ears while running. I was starting to think my ears were deformed or something.


These worked perfectly. They are yurbuds and are designed specifically for women. We will see if I continue to love them when I am running on a regular basis, but they worked great today.

Today's run was just what I needed. Now I am more determined to get back into running so I can complete the races I have already signed up for. I hate being disappointed in myself and I don't want to feel that way on race day. I want to finish and feel good about it. No more slacking.

This week the only days I checked off were the rest days and today. Next week will be different. Monday we are starting the Daniel Plan which will hopefully also help my running. I'll be filled with healthy food and not grease and nastiness and hopefully will not have anymore worst runs ever. I got my fill of that today.

A Fresh Start

My Dad said something in his sermon this morning that really got me thinking. He said (paraphrasing) that if you want to have a successful 2014, you need to forget about your failures of 2013. There were several things I wanted to accomplish last year that I never did. I consider these failures and I have always been really hard on myself. Now I need to move on and set goals for this year, forget about the things I never accomplished and accomplish greater things in 2014.

The first goal is to complete the Daniel Plan book/journal. It's a 40 day study and diet change. I did a Daniel Fast one other time for a shorter period, but this is a more comprehensive plan. I am looking forward to starting it.

                                                 


Another goal this year is to complete the Louisville triple crown of running. I'm really nervous about it now because it is coming up soon and I haven't been training for it. Here is this week's schedule: 

 
Thankfully tomorrow is a cross training day because the high temperature is 0. 

The third goal is to blog more. When I become inactive (lazy) I don't have much to blog about so this year I am going to stay active all year. I also want to reach my goal weight and I do much better when I am active and sharing my story. 

2014 is going to be a year full of challenges and changes. I know there will be some failures, but I won't let them get me down.
