Rain

It's been kind of a down week. The only thing that wasn't down was the scale. I gained .4 this week. I'm not too upset about it, I know that I can lose it again. I've learned from my mistakes and this week I will strive to do better.

I had my first rainy run of 2013 this week. I used to love running in the rain when I ran cross country in school. It kept you cool throughout your run. Rain in January is not as much fun. I started my warm-up and it was drizzling. At the end of the 5 minutes, it was pouring so I walked back home and waited until it calmed down again. Here are my stats for the run. The 5 minute warm-up is not included. I went about .25 miles during the warm-up. I had to restart the activity when I went back out.



I finally made the Weight Watchers vegetable soup that has just 1 point per serving in it. It was actually really filling and tasty. Plus, it was easy to make.



Monday I also did workout 1 of Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred DVD. It was a pretty good workout. I think I am going to alternate it with my running. This will incorporate some strength training too since I only have to run 3 days a week for the C25K.

This week will be better. I will be more self-disciplined and more focused so that the change will happen.

Virtual 5K

Today was the big day. Katie over at RunsForCookies.com was having a Virtual 5K for her 31st birthday. She is such an inspiration and has an amazing story that she has shared. It is very encouraging to read her blog and see that when you really try, you can do what you set out to do. For the race you just had to log your time through her blog. I am only on week 4 of C25K, but I thought I could finish the race so I signed up. I have really been looking forward to it because The Color Run is in June and I wanted to see how I would fair at that distance now. I am really thankful that she set this up. It felt so good to actually finish the 3.1 miles. I thought it would take about 45 minutes:


It only took 41:04! It is strange to look back at last year when I was running. It took 5 months to build up to 2.34 miles. 25 days into this year and I can make it 3.1??? What's the difference? Maybe it's because I am actually following a program, maybe I didn't pushed myself enough last year or I was just happy at 2 miles because I didn't think I could go any farther. Now I know better.

Lucas asked me why I always smile in the pictures I take after  I run.  Before I answered he said, "I know running makes you feel good." It truly does. 
This is the first time I have run 3.1 miles since high school. Granted, I did not actually run the whole time (that doesn't come until Week 8 of the program) but I finished. It's a good feeling to accomplish a goal.

Today really was a big day!

I had a scheduled run and since I hate the treadmill, I decided to go ahead and run outside. What was I thinking?  It wasn't too bad at first, but when I made the turn and had to run into the wind, it was so difficult. The wind just took my breath away. I thought to myself, "You are crazy." Now I know people run in colder weather than this, but this is the coldest so far for me. However, I did complete the run and for that I am thankful.

My Runkeeper app was not working properly. When I ran .25 miles it said I ran 1.4 and my average pace was 3 minutes and something. I'm not sure what happened. I ended up running 2.01 in 28.47.

So glad to be home.
I am down 1.2 pounds this week. I kind of blew it this afternoon though. Work was very stressful today and I didn't handle it very well. I've never really thought of myself as a stress eater, but today I realized that I am. Definitely need to work on that. I was supposed to be fasting today as a part of the devotional I am going through. I wasn't even hungry really, I just didn't deal with my feelings appropriately. I'm a little disappointed in myself, but we all have bad days. I just have to strive to not have very many.

I learned something about myself today. Or rather I just accepted something about myself and it took the bad to make me see. Maybe there really is something good in every day.

Art

Thankfully I had the day off. It was much needed after this past month of chaos. So I spent some time doing something that I have been wanting to do for a long time. I painted these three pictures today. 





I am not completely satisfied with them. They look okay, but I definitely need more practice. Here is the first and only other painting I have done. http://afeiock.blogspot.com/2012/02/0.html I have always enjoyed being creative: writing, drawing, etc. This is something new and it was very relaxing. 

I also ran today, but I will save that info for tomorrow with my weigh-in.

I Signed Up!

Yesterday's run went really well. It was so nice outside again. Especially for January. My time improved a little and I felt great. Being on a run schedule has been really helpful. Much better than just running whenever. I feel like I will actually be prepared to run the 5k.

Now to explain the title of this post... I signed up for the Color Run!!!!! I am pretty excited about it. I thought signing up would be great motivation for sticking with the program. It's June 8th so I know that I will have to keep running for six months to be able to complete the run. I may try to do another run before then, but I am really looking forward to this one.

Week 2

Thankfully, week 2 has also been successful. I am really enjoying running right now. The weather was great for running Friday and Saturday, then it turned cold. Yesterday was the coldest weather I have run in yet. It was 30 out when I was running. It's much better than running in the heat though. I ran 2.03 miles in 30.52. Since I am only on week 2 of the C25K, I am still walking the majority of the time. This makes me hopeful that I will be able to run a 5k by the end of the program.

I'm down 2.2 pounds this week. I'm only 10 pounds away from my lowest last year. Pretty exciting stuff. We ate out a lot this week and I was still able to stay within my points. I am very thankful for that.

We went to see Silver Linings Playbook this weekend. It was great! I don't think Lucas enjoyed it as much as I did, but it was a more realistic romantic comedy than most. Afterwards we went to Macaroni Grill.

I have really been wanting to get my paint kit back out. I think that will be my project this weekend. It's something that I enjoy, but I don't ever take the time to do it. Hold me to it and I will post a picture of it afterwards.

Last week was the most stressful week at work ever. I was exhausted by the weekend. Definitely thinking about the future and what I need to do and what God wants me to do.

Dad gave a very inspiring sermon Sunday that can be applied to every aspect of our lives. Christ should always come first. We all have barriers that we need to tear down. Apathy is a big one. This is one of the reasons I haven't tried to change before. I just didn't care anymore. I was oblivious to the way I was. It IS possible to change. No matter what needs to be changed, it is possible to do it. With the right motivation and  determination, change will happen.

Let me reiterate: Change WILL Happen!

Week 1

The first week of the year has been a success. I stayed in my WW points for the week. Thankfully you get extra every week to use when you want. We went out to eat Saturday and my meal was 50 points!!! That's insane. At least it taught me to look up the point values before I go. Preparation is the key.

We also went to see the Princess Diana exhibit this weekend. It was really interesting to learn all about her. I can't imagine wearing a wedding dress with that enormous train. She looked so unhappy in most of the pictures they had of her. I didn't know much about her before and it was good to see all of the things she was involved in and how she influenced so many people's lives. It makes me think about a couple of things: what do people see when they see pictures of me and what will my legacy be? These are good things to keep in mind when trying to make all of these changes. I don't want people to look back and think, "Why did she look so unhappy?"

I also completed week 1 of the couch to 5k program. On the schedule for the 1st week there is a 5 minute warm up walk followed by 8 sets of alternating between 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking and lastly a 5 minute cool down walk. There are only 3 runs scheduled per week. These were some of the coldest runs I've ever been on. I don't think I've ever run when there is snow on the ground before. It wasn't too challenging, but I know it's going to get tougher as the schedule progresses. I am debating about signing up for a 5k race in June. It's the Color Run. It looks like it'd be a lot of fun, I've just got to work up the courage to do it. 

On a final note, I did lose 3.6 pounds this week! It's good to see results again and makes me wonder why I ever stopped in the first place. As the kids at church said tonight, "Don't worry about the past. It's in the past." All I can do is move forward and make the changes now.

01/01/2013

This has been the most relaxing weekend we have had in a long time. It will be tough going back to work tomorrow. We saw Les Mis on Saturday. It was FANTASTIC! It's such a wonderful story. It is definitely a favorite of mine. We also ate out a lot this weekend. (I know you're not supposed to do this, but we used gift cards from Christmas to go eat all the unhealthy stuff before my diet started. You can't go to Olive Garden when you're dieting.) It's been really nice doing absolutely nothing though. I think I have started growing to our couch.

Day 1 of Weight Watchers has been successful. I was going to take a picture of our plates, but I forgot. I made a chicken parm Hungry Girl recipe. It was pretty tasty. I also restarted "Becoming the Woman I Want to Be." This time I am determined to finish it. One more thing I am going to do this year is read the New Testament. Last year I set out to read the entire Bible in a year, but I found that I was just reading it to get it done. This will give me time to read it and study it.

2013 is going to be a great year. My Dad said is his sermon Sunday that he told someone to have a good day and in reply the man said, "Make it a good day." I am going to make 2013 a good year.
